Jim Harbaugh Snags His Dream Edge in Late Chargers Draft Projection

The 2026 NFL draft is officially here, and it’s time for all the mocks and projections to take a backseat to what these teams actually do under the big lights.

The three-day event takes place on Thursday, April 23, in Pittsburgh, beginning at 8 p.m. EDT and airing live on ESPN, ABC and the ESPN App.

Jim Harbaugh is coming up on an important draft for the Los Angeles Chargers. He’s already done impressive things with this team, but heading into year two, his selections are critical.

Jordan Reid of ESPN released a comprehensive seven-round mock draft rattling off all 32 teams’ picks in the draft. “That’s right, this seven-round mock draft features 257 prospects who I believe will be selected this week,” he says in the piece.

For the Chargers, he has them selecting a player who’s an absolute dream for any team needing a good edge: Akheem Mesidor out of Miami.

“The Chargers need interior offensive line help, but with Odafe Oweh having departed for Washington and Khalil Mack entering his age-35 season,” he states, “Los Angeles also needs an edge rusher to add to Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu. Mesidor would be an excellent fit into the pass-rush rotation as a relentless player with a repertoire of moves.”

Mesidor clocked 12.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss last season. Reid also calls him a “reliable run defender who can set a firm edge.”

So, is Mesidor right for the Chargers’ first pick, which land at No. 22? Considering their latest roster holes and, as Reid mentioned, losing Oweh and Mack running towards the end of his NFL career, it makes sense for the Charger to invest in their future with an edge who has the potential to be a starter.

If Mesidor is available by pick No. 22, they should absolutely take him. There’s a chance he’ll already be taken, but if not, this is a no-brainer move.
