Texas Ironman Athlete Mara Flávia 'Ignored' Plea Before Being Found Dead

The female athlete found dead during a Texas Ironman event reportedly "ignored" pleas before the race.

Mara Flávia, 38, was found dead in the muddy waters of a Texas Ironman outside of Houston last week. The Brazilian athlete and influencer was competing in the brutal race, that consists of a long swim, long bicycle ride and full marathon run. She was found dead by authorities, with her body near the surface.

She had posted: "Another day of work" before the race.

However, according to one close friend, she ignored "pleas" to drop out, prior to the race beginning.

Her close friend, Luis Taveira, said that he did not want her to be racing, because she had not been feeling well.

"She was ill before the trip, she wasn't okay," Luis Taveira said.

"My wife and I spoke with her to say she was too weak for this race, although a couple of days ago when we talked to her, she insisted she was okay.

"I still cannot believe what's happened. She was ill because of the flu."

Flavia's sister released a heartfelt tribute

Flávia's sister, Melissa Araújo, admitted that a part of her is now gone.

"You were always synonymous with determination, with courage - with a strength that seemed too vast to be contained within you," she wrote on social media.

"You never did anything halfway; perhaps that is why you left such a profound mark on the lives of everyone who crossed your path.

"A piece of me is gone, and I will have to learn to live without it. And it hurts in a way I cannot even explain.

"It is a strange silence, a void I knew existed all along - as if the world itself had lost a little of its color."

May she rest in peace.
