Mat Cats place sixth at Thurston County Throwdown
The Twin City Wrestling Club placed sixth at the Washington State Wrestling Association Thurston County Freestyle/Greco Throwdown on Saturday at Black Hills, where two Mat Cats took gold.
Kaiden Coates was one of the club's winners, finishing first at U14 FS 140-142, and he led the team with 28 points in freestyle. Ophileah Cortes also picked up a victory at U8 FS 96.8-105.1, and she finished with 26 points in freestyle.
Natasha Hicks picked up 26 points in Greco, and Aiden Bensching added 26 freestyle points.
Elsewhere in freestyle, Camden Maine added 25 points, Bowen Driscoll, Luke Day, and Hunter Rice scored 24 each, and both Ryker Roberts and Grayson Day scored 20.
An even dozen Mat Cats took second: Layla Simonds (U8 FS 96.8-105.1), Weston Bush (U10 FS 58.3-59), Camden Maine (U10 FS 75.4-83.8), Hunter Rice (U12 FS 92.3-97.6), Ryker Roberts (U12 FS 111.4-116.4), Grayson Day (U14 FS 84-88), Zoie Cortes (U14 FS 225+ and U14 GR 237.3-247.8), Luke Day (U10 GR 66.4-67.4), Jace Hanson (U12 GR 78.7-84.7), Kaiden Coates (U14 GR 139-150.5), and Natasha Hicks (Girls (Grades 6-8) GR 125.3-131).
Nine more took third: Bowen Driscoll (U8 FS 45.1-49), Aiden Bensching (U8 FS 48.1-52.1), Luke Day (U10 FS 63.6-67.4), Jace Hanson (U12 FS 78.7-85.8), Natasha Hicks (Girls (Grades 6-8) FS 125.3-131), Ophileah Cortes (U10 GR 96-104.6), Chance Swartz (U12 GR 72.7-75.5), Hunter Rice (U12 GR 95.3-99.7), and Grayson Day (U14 GR 85.2-90.6).
And five more took fourth: Mike Martin (U8 FS 48.1-52.1), Carter Coates (U10 FS 70.5-75.4 and U10 GR 70.5-75.4), Aiden Bensching (U8 GR 52.1-55.9), Zoie Cortes (U16 GR 246.5-275).
Next up for the Mat Cats is the WSWA FS/GR Slam Fest at Fife High School on Saturday.
