UNC, Michael Malone Land Highly-Touted Transfer
The North Carolina Tar Heels and new head basketball coach Michael Malone landed a huge transfer portal addition on Tuesday, securing a commitment from former Utah guard Terrence Brown.
Brown is the Tar Heels’ second transfer portal addition of the Malone era, joining Virginia Tech transfer Neoklis Avdalas.
Brown was the third leading scorer in the Big 12 last season, averaging 19.9 points per game in 32 games for the Utes. The 6-foot-3 guard shot 45.3% from the field and 32.7% from behind the 3-point arc.
Before transferring to Utah for the 2025-26 college basketball season, Brown spent his first two seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson University. In 2024-25, he led the Northeast Conference with 20.6 points and 2.2 steals per game.
Brown chose UNC over Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon, Ole Miss and USC. He’s the No. 8 combo guard and No. 38 overall transfer in this year’s class, according to 247Sports’ rankings.
“I'm home. Go heels,” Brown wrote in a social media post on Tuesday, showing pictures from his recent visit to Chapel Hill
Malone discussed the type of players he wants for his program during his introductory press conference on April 6.
“When I think about the culture that we’re going to create here, [it’s the] same culture we had in Denver, because it doesn’t matter - NBA or college, you can have a strong culture,” he said. “That’s going to start with being a team that outworks people - self-motivated. I want to surround myself with players who have that kind of work ethic. I shouldn’t have to go to practice and try to motivate you every day.”
“Culture is something you have to work on every single day,” Malone added. “I think as we put pieces together, we’re going to have a chance to have success because we’re going to be about the right things and work on those things every single day.”
