It was a cold, windy, and rainy night in Chehalis on Wednesday, but the W.F. West softball team battled through the elements to pick up a 4-1 victory over Black Hills.

Taylor Tobin put together another outstanding effort in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing three hits and one run and striking out 11.

Zylstra said that Tobin struggled to get a feel for her rise ball with the wet ball, but she was able to regain it in the seventh, when she struck out the side.

"It was cold and it's hard to get a feel, and that makes it difficult," W.F. West coach Kevin Zylstra said. "She battled through it."

Offensively, the Bearcats opened the scoring in the third on an RBI double from Avery Osborn, and they doubled their advantage on a Black Hills error.

The Wolves got one back with an RBI single from Lily Shipe, but back-to-back RBI singles from Osborn and Kenley Fragner put W.F. West up 4-1 after five.

Osborn not only finished with her two RBIs, but she also scored the other two runs, while Fragner, Rayah Middleton, Karlee Coleman, and Tanner Tobin picked up hits.

"We didn't blast any out," Zylstra said. We stole bases, bunted a few times, and just scratched off runs where we could hats off."

Shipe finished with Black Hills' lone RBI, while Maddie Knight collected the Wolves' other two hits and scored the run.

Hannah O'Shurak pitched all six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) while walking three and striking out six.

Black Hills (0-8, 0-5 2A EvCo) will host Shelton on Friday.

W.F. West (7-2, 3-1 2A EvCo) will be in action sooner, as the Bearcats will host Centralia on Thursday in another attempt to play the first Swamp Cup meeting of the season.

"It's gonna be fourth attempt to play these guys," Zylstra said with a laugh. "I'm looking forward to it. They're putting together a pretty good season, and we're looking for a really good battle from them."
