Lonzo Ball Gets Into It With Sports Analyst Over LaMelo Ball Criticism
LaMelo Ball has been more available this season, and recently he willed his team to a victory over the Miami Heat with a game-winning layup in the play-in. He led the team with 30 points while also recording five rebounds and ten assists. This keeps the Hornets' playoff hopes alive.
Ball's heroics deserve their own discussion, but some critics are focused on a play that may or may not have contributed to the victory.
Heat center Bam Adebayo played just 11 minutes in the game after being ruled out due to a hard fall he suffered early in the second quarter. The incident occurred while he was defending Ball, who had been fouled by a teammate. Ball went down and appeared to drag Adebayo with him by grabbing his left foot. Adebayo fell hard on his back and suffered a lower back injury.
Some people believed it was a dirty play, although the Hornets star insisted postgame that it was not and said he intends to apologize to Adebayo.
Several observers said there is no place for that kind of play in basketball. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra called it a "stupid play" and "shenanigans" from Ball. An even more scathing remark came from analyst Nick Wright, who went on his show and called Ball names.
"That young man is a clown and has been a clown forever and will never not be a clown," Wright said in the "First Things First" show.
He also emphasized how Ball should not be acting that way as a franchise player.
"General disregard for the safety of others around him in all walks of life is not what a $200M face of the franchise guy [does]…It's not that he's a kid. He's been in the league the whole decade."@getnickwright weighs in on the play involving LaMelo Ball and Bam Adebayo: pic.twitter.com/X6BSCXBz8m

He doubled down on this through his own X account.
Listen, I think the last time I went scorched earth on a guy was Pat Bev years ago… but after LaMelo intentionally injures Bam & plays one of the most erratic elimination games we've ever seen, in the same season he's been a menace on the streets of Charlotte, if calling him a…

LaMelo's brother Lonzo will have none of it. The free agent guard took to X to return the words to Wright. He called him a "bum", accompanied by a clown emoji.
Nick Wright a bum!

He then fired more shots and questioned Wright's credentials. He also clarified that he is not one to be agitated but in this case, he is ready to be confrontational.
Wright got wind of Lonzo's rant but he made sure that his issue is only with LaMelo.
These are my natural curls, thank you very much.

Also, I respect you having your brother's back… despite the fact that deep down you've gotta know everything I said was true.
He's immensely talented, hilariously immature, reckless on and off the court & his own worst enemy. https://t.co/afTlM94d65
The NBA said they are going to investigate LaMelo's play against Adebayo although the Hornets guard is not expected to be suspended for it.
For now, the Hornets are busy preparing for their next game. They will face the loser of the match between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic for a chance to play Eastern Conference top team Detroit Pistons in a seven-game series.
