Who Will Be Inter Miami's Coach After Javier Mascherano's Exit? 3 Possible Replacements
Inter Miami will no longer be coached by Javier Mascherano as the Argentine manager has decided to leave the club with immediate effect.
Mascherano led Inter Miami to the 2025 MLS championship last December. He coached seven MLS games this season, with the last one being last Saturday against the New York Red Bulls.
Inter Miami confirmed that the club has hired an interim manager for the upcoming games. Inter Miami's next game will be against the Colorado Rapids in the MLS on Saturday.
The MLS champions announced that the interim head coach will be Guillermo Hoyos.
Inter Miami's statement read, "Guillermo Hoyos will assume the role of First Team head coach for the upcoming matches. Hoyos is a former professional footballer with more than 20 years of playing experience, as well as a coach and sporting director with extensive international experience in the fútbol world. He has managed clubs in various countries, including Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Bolivia (where he also served as national team head coach), Greece, and Cyprus. He also has experience in youth development, including his time at FC Barcelona. Since joining Inter Miami CF, he has been responsible for overseeing and advancing the Club's professional pathway development structure, while also serving as the sporting director up to now."
Inter Miami is expected to hire a permanent head coach for the majority of the season.
Three Possible Replacements for Inter Miami Head Coach
One name that comes to mind who potentially could take the Inter Miami head coach job is Xavi Hernandez, who is currently a free agent and is on good terms with former teammate Lionel Messi.
Xavi Hernandez recently confirmed in welcoming Messi to FC Barcelona when he was the manager a few years ago.
Another potential replacement for Javier Masherano at Inter Miami could be Marcelo Gallardo, who is notable for coaching River Plate over the last decade. Gallardo is heavily respected as a head coach and was linked with European clubs in the past.
Another potential replacement could be Wilfried Nancy, who has a lot of experience coaching in the MLS after coaching CF Montreal and the Columbus Crew. He recently coached Celtic FC in Scotland, but his tenure lasted only 33 days.
