Timberwolves Star Anthony Edwards Turns Heads With Message to Raven Johnson

Former South Carolina star guard Raven Johnson joined the Indiana Fever on Monday night.

She also joined Adidas.

Just before the 2026 WNBA Draft, Nick DePaula broke the news that Johnson signed “a multi-year shoe deal with Adidas.” Johnson confirmed the news with an Instagram post captioned, “Earned My Stripes.”

The news garnered a response from Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star guard Anthony Edwards, who has a signature shoe deal with Adidas.

Edwards reposted it to his Instagram Story and wrote, “My daughter [handshake emoji] /// Fam.” He added three holding-back-tears emojis for good measure.

In March, Johnson opened up about how close she is to Edwards on “I AM ATHLETE.”

“He’s like a big brother to me,” she said. “I knew him since I was young, but I think we got closer. We used to train together, but I think we got closer over the years. He’s helped me get over a lot of things because he’s the type of person, like, ‘I don’t care.’ He don’t care what nobody about him. He’s from Atlanta. Heart, soul is from Atlanta.”

Edwards and Johnson are both from Atlanta. Edwards played one season at the University of Georgia before the Timberwolves drafted him No. 1 overall in 2020. Johnson spent five years at the University of South Carolina before the Fever drafted her No. 10 overall on Monday.

Johnson went 145-9 across five seasons at South Carolina and won two national championships (2022, 2024). Johnson is the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Now, she’ll reunite with former South Carolina teammate Aliyah Boston, who was ecstatic about the pick, in Indiana.

The WNBA’s 30th season tips off on May 8, and the Fever will open by hosting the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on May 9.
