Kamiakin, Richland, Kennewick + 8 other Mid-Col teams begin WA baseball matchups

The Mid-Columbia have 11 teams participating this weekend in the WIAA state baseball tournament.

Leading the way will be three Mid-Columbia Conference schools in Kamiakin, Richland and Kennewick.

And two of the region’s smaller schools — Liberty Christian of Richland (Class 1B) and Tri-Cities Prep (2B) — earned their respective classifications’ top seeds into their tournaments.

Excluding a couple of state play-in games on Tuesday, almost all first- and second-round contests will be played Saturday.

Here is what’s scheduled:

Class 4A: After winning the District 6 tournament, Kamiakin will host a four-team pod as the No. 2 seed. The Braves will play host to No. 15 Olympia at 1 p.m. at LaPierre Field.

The other game, set for 10 a.m., pits No. 10 Jackson of Everett against No. 7 North Creek of Bothell.

Winners will meet in a quarterfinal after the second game is completed.

Richland — which after losing to Kamiakin in the district title game, came back to eliminate Hanford for the second state tourney berth — earned a No. 5 seed, and the defending state champion Bombers will head to Yakima.

Richland will play No. 12 Kennedy Catholic at 1 p.m. at West Valley High School.
