Tri-Cities basketball standout leads the way at Colorado’s Adams State + more local sports

Former Columbia Basin College men’s basketball standout Ta’Veus Randle is the No. 2 scorer and No. 2 in steals for the Adams State team in Colorado this season.

Randle, a junior, is averaging 13.8 points a game, and he has 26 steals. The team has a 7-9 record.

Montana State University Northern’s football team had three freshmen from Hanford High School on its roster this past fall.

Gabe Butler and Bryson Souriyavongsa are offensive linemen, while Karter Coffman is a wide receiver.

Richland High grad Sage Brustad finished her college volleyball career this past fall by being named first-team All-West Coast Conference.

The former Eastern Washington University standout transferred to Washington State University before the 2024 season, and it would be Brustad’s final season of eligibility.

Brustad led the Cougars with 42 service aces, and was No. 2 on the team in volleyball scoresheet points with 407.5, as well as being second on the team with 343 kills.

Teammate Taryn Vrieling (Kamiakin), a junior who transferred to WSU from the University of Idaho, finished fourth for the Cougars with 172 kills.

WSU had a 16-12 record.

College signings

Walla Walla senior Ian Lash recently signed a letter of intent to run both cross country and track and field for Eastern Washington University.

Lash was named first-team All-Mid-Columbia Conference boys cross country team this past fall.

Wa-Hi track and field coach Eric Hisaw says that Lash becomes the 100th Blue Devil to compete in the college ranks.

BYU’s cross country program signed Jane Hedengren to a women’s cross country program letter of intent this past fall.

Hedengren comes from Timpview High School in Utah, and she won the Nike Cross Nationals on Dec. 7 — beating the runnerup by an astounding 40 seconds.

Hedengren is the daughter of John Hedengren, a 1995 Richland High graduate who was also an outstanding distance runner in his day at BYU.

Pro baseball

Kennewick High graduate Trent Sellers had a great first full season in the New York Yankees’ farm system.

Sellers — a right-handed pitcher who starred collegiately at Lewis-Clark State College, and then Oregon State University — spent the majority of the 2024 season with the Yankees’ High-A team, the Hudson Valley Renegades, in the South Atlantic League.

He was named to the end-of-the-season league all-star team as a starting pitcher.

Sellers finished with a 6-3 record, had a 2.09 earned run average, pitching in 31 games (starting 9 times), and struck out 98 batters in 82 innings.

Prep basketball

Prosser senior Koby McClure became the school’s all-time scoring leader in boys basketball on Dec. 21, when the senior scored his 1,432nd point in a win over East Valley of Yakima.

The previous record was held by Haden Hicks.
