Pasco, Prosser girls fall short in state basketball semifinals

No. 3 seed Pasco’s girls fell short in the Class 4A state semifinals in the Tacoma Dome on Friday, losing to No. 2 seed Sumner 64-55.

Sumner outscored Pasco 17-6 in points off of turnovers.

Mya Groce led Pasco with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Taija Mackey added 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots.

The Bulldogs will play No. 5 Eastlake for third place at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. The loser places fifth.

(7) RICHLAND 61, (6) EMERALD RIDGE 41: Kylee Fox scored 33 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the Bombers to a loser-out victory.

Macie Milam added 18 points and 7 rebounds, as the Bombers play No. 9 Camas at 8 a.m. Saturday for fourth or sixth place in the Tacoma Dome.

4A boys

(4) KAMIAKIN 63, (8) GONZAGA PREP 40: The Braves outrebounded the Bullpups 42-25 en route to rolling to the loser-out victory.

Tyler Bilodeau led Kamiakin with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Trey Arland added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Kamiakin now plays No. 5 seed Tahoma at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for 4th and 6th place.

The two teams played last weekend in regionals, with Tahoma winning.

3A girls

(7) STANWOOD 67, (14) HERMISTON 57: The Bulldogs finished its season at 17-12 with the loss in Tacoma.

Senior Katelyn Heideman had 20 points for Hermiston.

Freshman Izzy Simmons added 20 points, but also had 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

2A boys

(7) PORT ANGELES 70, (14) PROSSER 68 (OT): The Mustangs ended their season with the loss.

Kobe Phillips led Prosser with 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Kobe McClure added 16 points, as Prosser ended its season at 15-12.

2A girls

(8) BURLINGTON-EDISON 55, (11) PROSSER 46: The Mustangs’ bid to win the state title died on Friday with the loss in Yakima.

Halle Wright led Prosser with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while freshman Laylee Dixon added 11 points and 9 rebounds.

Prosser plays No. 4 W.F. West of Chehalis at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, with the winner placing third, and the loser finishing fifth.

2B boys

(10) COLUMBIA BURBANK 61, (11) TOUTLE LAKE 47: After losing in the quarterfinals on Thursday night, the Coyotes bounced back to win the loser-out game in the Spokane Arena.

Burbank led 26-15 at halftime and never was threatened.

Parker Nelson led Burbank with 19 points and 6 rebounds, while freshman Tristan Frimodt added 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Coyotes now play No. 3 Colfax in the 4th/6th place game, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today.

2B girls

(2) WARDEN 68, (4) OKANOGAN 48: The Cougars advance to the state championship game, thanks to rolling past Okanogan.

Warden outscored Okanogan 22-4 in points off of turnovers.Lauren Madsen led the Cougars with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Kiana Rios added 15 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

Warden will play No. 3 Colfax for the state title, set for 5 p.m. today at the Spokane Arena.

1B boys

(2) CUSICK 59, (5) SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 48: Cusick led 24-12 after one quarter and never looked back in the semifinal win in Spokane.

Cole Wagenaar led SSC with 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Justin Van Wierengen added 10 points and 6 rebounds.

SSC will play No. 3 Northwest Yeshiva at 9 p.m. Saturday, with the winner placing third, and the loser finishing 5th.

(6) MOSES LAKE CHRISTIAN/COVENANT 55, (8) DESALES 44: Jack Lesko scored 19 points, but it wasn’t enough as DeSales had its season end in Spokane.

MLC/C outscored DeSales 17-5 in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.
