CBC volleyball clinches East Region title, to host first rounds of NWAC tourney
The Columbia Basin College volleyball team swept Treasure Valley 3-0 this week, allowing the Hawks to clinch the East Region title with a 12-4 conference record.
The Hawks were led by Chiawana grad Lucendy Perez, who had 8 kills, 8 digs and 3 blocks.
Teammate Lindsay Cummings (Decatur) added 4 kills and 3 blocks, while Grace Morby (Kennewick) had 6 kills and 3 digs.
CBC head coach DiShondra Goree’s squad finished the regular season with an 18-9 record.
Because of that first-place finish in the East, CBC earns the right to host the East Bracket first and second rounds this coming weekend.
The schedule starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Lower Columbia playing Lane at 10 a.m., and CBC hosting Whatcom at 1 p.m.
The losers of those games complete the day with a loser-out match at 6 p.m.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., the two winners of Saturday’s first two contests meet to determine the top seed out of the East.
The loser of this game must play again at 3 p.m. Sunday against the winner of Saturday’s 6 p.m. match. The winner of that contest advances to the Elite 8 as the East Region No. 2 team.
The Elite 8 will be played Nov. 19-21 at Pierce College in Lakewood.
Walla Walla Community College earned the East’s No. 2 playoff spot, and the Warriors will open play in the South Bracket on Saturday against Linn-Benton.
▪ Two Tri-Citians will be on visiting squads for the CBC bracket matches.
Whatcom has freshmen Payton Pedersen from Richland on its roster, while sophomore Angela Sullivan (Chiawana) plays for Lower Columbia.

Now 11-2-2, CBC heads to the Starfire Stadium complex in Mukilteo this weekend for the NWAC semifinals.

In the other semifinal, Clark meets Highline at 6:30 p.m.
The championship is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
