Letter: There is still hope for Congress and the Legislature

Several years ago, my son nearly died in a single-vehicle rollover accident. It was late; he was tired and he dozed. As his vehicle drifted off the road, the rumble strips woke him up. Panicking, he gave the wheel a hard jerk in the opposite direction, causing his vehicle to roll. He had his seatbelt on and survived, but not without some cuts and a good scare!

Experts agree to avoid rolling, he should have held a steady grip on the wheel, slowed gradually and gently steered himself back onto the roadway. Instead, in a panic, he overreacted and totaled his car.

That event reminds me of our current political situation. Voters are panicking as they see the United States veering off course. Rather than choosing moderate leaders to lead our country gently back to center, they are choosing extremists. But, a violent jerk in the opposite political direction will only make our situation worse!

It appears too late to bring the White House back to center this election cycle, but there is still hope for Congress and the Legislature. Support moderate candidates like Dan Newhouse, Chris Vance, Larry Haler and Rick Jansons to help steer us back on course.
