Letter: Religion and education are needed for rational, ethical judgments
Many foreign travelers come to the U.S. to take advantage of our superior environment, rules of life and economy. Yet we have some so-called elite here who would change our way of life — preferably with themselves in charge.
One big advantage is having a people fairly well-educated, with superior religious principles. I believe both religion and education are needed so that people can make rational, ethical judgments that contribute positively to the public.
Our religious teaching is to help us recognize our maker and live lives of service to each other. Some ignore their principles via selfishness, greed and mean behavior, which hurts society.
Some history teaching in schools merely teaches a record of what society did and how life progressed, if any. However a much superior education demands both the study of historical facts and what went wrong. This would allow us (if we were smart) to gain even a more superior life for all society.
There are the goals we should shoot for — not the simple-minded, society-wasting goals of the inferior terrorists. The terrorists’ goals are self-serving, destructive and damage all of us to gain advantage — not an intelligent position.
