Letter: Appalling that Trump turns to Russia for help

I was aghast after reading “Trump urges Russia to uncover deleted Clinton emails” (TCH, July 28). To think any American politician, let alone a presidential candidate, would turn to Russia for help in getting elected is appalling.

Does Trump overlook not-so-recent Cold War history, when Russia was our enemy, and the fact it still has a communist regime opposed to American democratic principles? Of course, his heroes are Saddam Hussein, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un — all bullying dictators. Wake up, America! Don’t be complacent thinking that our system will keep a bullying demagogue from going too far if elected.

Germany had a system! But their system was overcome in the 1930s by Adolf Hitler, also a bullying demagogue. A lot of good German citizens were complacent about changes in their country until it was too late.

American citizens, consider the issues and stand against a repeat of history.
