Letter: Trump has genius for leveraging his ignorance

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump tells us that political correctness is a crock. In that spirit, perhaps it’s time to make that comparison that political correctness suggests is out of bounds.

I’m talking about Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. Is there anyone, anyone at all, in the Germany of the 1930s, whom we would condemn, regardless of position, for speaking out against Adolf Hitler?

Is there anyone, anyone at all, in the Germany of the 1930s, whom we would commend, regardless of position, for remaining silent?

I certainly commend Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for speaking truth about Donald Trump. I was sorry to see her express regret for her remarks, though she stopped short of apology.

The best thing I can say about Donald Trump is that he has a genius for leveraging his ignorance. To quote Albert Camus, in his novel The Plague, “Stupidity has a knack for getting its way; as we should see if we were not always so much wrapped up in ourselves.”
