Letter: People distracted by phones present a hazard
So I’m riding my bike on my usual route that takes me through Howard Amon Park at a very slow speed to avoid competition for the path with walkers, pets and other riders. I have a little bell to avoid scaring folks and always warn folks of my presence.
Recently, 12 out of 13 walkers on the path had their noses buried in their phones. Twice I asked folks to “look up, please,” as they walked into my part of the sidewalk. It was like I was waking them from a deep sleep.
Now I read about the new Pokemon Go game played while walking (or driving). Great, just what we need, more distracted folks ambling mindlessly along totally oblivious to their (and my) surroundings.
