Letter: Replace the tax code with a national sales tax

Revising the current tax code couldn’t get any more crazy. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wis., unveiled the Top 1% Accountability Act, requiring those claiming itemized deductions of more than $150,000 on their tax returns to submit to drug tests or file for less generous tax deductions.

Yep, instead of rescinding the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, another “fix” is in the wind. When will it end? IRS employees, like all other federal employees, can abuse their power without consequences. The IRS needs to be brought back to its original intent — collecting tax monies. Not targeting groups they disagree with politically.

The simplest way would be to replace the current tax code with a national sales tax. We Washingtonians are subject to a sales tax in lieu of a state income tax. The state needs more money. Put a raise in the sales tax up to a vote of the public.

The “fair tax” is the only solution to reigning in the IRS and ensuring all citizens pay their fair share, as the progressives like to put forth. Don’t get me wrong, the Republicans are just as bad and they wonder why Trump is the people’s choice (not mine) for president.
