Letter: Link proposal will be a wonderful addition to our community
My first reaction to the Link vote to expand the convention center was “no.” Who wants to see taxes rise? Besides, I don’t get out much anymore. The last time I went to the Toyota Center was for Jeff Dunham, and the time before that was in 2008 when my youngest child graduated from Southridge. It is a hockey rink, not a concert venue.
I may never attend an event at the Link if this proposal passes, but that’s not the point. This new venue would allow the Tri-Cities to compete at the next level and bring shows to the area that we don’t get now. It will be beneficial to so many Tri-Citians, especially our young people. Like it or not, we are really one community and if sales taxes rise only in Kennewick, so be it.
There were a lot of naysayers when the carousel went in at the Southridge Sports Complex, but it is well-done and a real attraction. The Link proposal is well-planned and reasonable, and will be a wonderful addition to our community. It deserves our support.
Gordon Johnson, Kennewick
