Letter: Would shutting off the Columbia Generating Station really be a benefit?

Well, I almost smiled when I read that someone in Vancouver has decided that the “atomic power generation plant” in the desert, north of Richland, should be deactivated. Another west-sider who thinks we Tri-Cities residents are in danger (as well as the rest of the state’s residents) of being irradiated by this power plant’s operation.

These west-side people do not understand how much electric power this facility produces, and how safely, and how it contributes to furnishing lower-cost power to Northwest homes and businesses. It is good for the entire state economy.

No smiles knowing an activist has started this movement to “make us safer.”

There is little doubt in my mind that she will be able to gather enough petition signers to get this put on the ballot — the west side will prevail. Would shutting off the Columbia Generating Station really be a benefit to the Northwest economy?

I guess these folks really like the skylines that are broken up by the wind generators up and down the Gorge. They really add to the beauty.
