Letter: Why does Trump think Hispanics will love him in November?

Associated Press

Lost in the flap over Donald Trump’s racist dismissal of Judge Gonzalo Curiel, about which more than enough has been said, is a reasonable question as to whether rulings the judge has issued in the Trump University case do, in fact, show an unfair bias.

I would still consider Mr. Trump a racist and unfit for public office, but if an unbiased review of the case revealed that the racism was only a smoke screen for fraudulent business dealings, it would be doubly damning.

If, on the other hand, Trump University was a legitimate source of valuable information and was honest in its dealings with students, one might sympathize with him for feeling beset by a petty issue while trying to provide leadership for the nation.

It’s also puzzling that Mr. Trump assumes a judge with Mexican heritage would automatically be biased against him, but still claim that in November Hispanics will “love” him.
