Letter: Citizens must unite against intolerance and violence
As an American Muslim, I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of innocent people perpetrated by a disturbed and misguided individual in Florida. All religions, including Islam, teach us that life is extremely precious and should be treated with reverence.
I express my profound grief and condemn the senseless act that violated all human decency. Hate, bigotry and violence are our common enemy. During the holy month of Ramadan I appeal to Americans of all faiths to join together to support the Orlando community.
As President Obama said at his press conference on June 14, “Let us stand together in our grief and outrage, and our solidarity with the victims and their families.”
As a Muslim, I support the civil rights of all people. May God guide all of us to strive for His cause.
My hope is that fair-minded leaders will join us in reminding our fellow Americans, that while some might use this to divide us, the nation must see this as a moment of unity, when all citizens unite against the common enemy of intolerance and violence.
