It is my opinion that among Trump’s disgruntled supporters, there are a considerable number who are fully aware that he is a grave danger to our country and our democracy, and are supporting him simply out of resentment and pique towards the rest of us.
I don’t think these people are going to be mollified by improvements in economic conditions or even concessions to their political beliefs. I think they feel they’ve been cruelly slighted by the world and life in general and want nothing more than revenge.
I see Trump as the progeny of bitterness over the Civil War and equal voting rights laws, the mechanization of farming and manufacturing, pathetic funding for education, all of it whipped up by the right-wing political entertainment media.
I believe that if Trump somehow ascends to the presidency, we will all soon be very, very sorry.
