Letter: Why vote for a bigoted con man like Donald Trump?

The Trump University case provides the most recent illustration that Donald Trump should not be president. Legal action claims that the education provided was worthless and that the “university” was a fraudulent scheme to separate gullible people from their money. There are statements from the instructors supporting this view.

These allegations, if supported, show unethical conduct unbecoming a president. Trump is so worried about the case that in desperation, he is bullying the judge, Gonzalo Curiel. Trump claimed that Judge Curiel is “a Mexican” and therefore biased, calling him a Trump-hater.

In fact, Gonzalo Curiel was born in Indiana, of Mexican heritage, and has served our country bravely and patriotically. He successfully prosecuted Mexican drug lords, even while having his life threatened. There is no evidence to back up the claim that Curiel is biased in the case, and Trump’s lawyers are not asking for this judge to be removed from the case.

But we know how Trump bad-mouths brave patriots. Recall what he said about an American naval aviator who was imprisoned by the Vietnamese. I don’t see how a thoughtful American could possibly vote for a bigoted con-man like Donald Trump.
