Letter: Why capitalism is necessary to the American way of life

Capitalism is the lifeblood of business. Without free market capitalism, the United States would not be as great a nation as we are today. It provides economic freedom, which in turn helps provide political freedom.

If the government set the prices for all goods produced in the United States, it would become a large bureaucracy that would try to run other areas of life. Efficiency is another outcome of capitalism, because companies with high demands of products would be forced to eliminate unnecessary waste from products and cut costs.

The American Dream to me personally is only successful if capitalism is allowed to flourish. Without capitalism, small businesses would fail, large companies would be government-run, and our freedom to make a living for ourselves would be taken away.

This nation was founded to avoid being overtaken by an immense government, but if we are trying to eliminate capitalism, would our government become the exact power that our Founding Fathers warned us about?
