Letter: There’s a third presidential candidate as option

Our country is in the sad position of choosing between two terrible candidates — or are we? There is a third candidate who has a realistic chance of actually doing a good job — Gary Johnson.

A two-term governor from New Mexico, Gary Johnson will be on the ballot in all 50 states as a libertarian. In a nutshell, he is fiscally conservative, socially moderate-to-liberal, and has real experience in major issues facing our nation. As governor of a border state, he is familiar with the need for immigration reform. He is a successful businessman. He believes in term limits for politicians, women’s rights, and a simpler tax code.

But what’s most important is that he is clear on the issues, has experience running a government, and isn’t flip-flopping to win votes. He is the most moderate option, and given the next president will likely make multiple Supreme Court nominations, that’s what important to reducing the division in our nation.

Finally, voting for a third party may not win this election, but it could dramatically change our next election by bringing a third party to the same playing field as the Democrats and Republicans.
