Letter: Vote ‘yes’ for the Link to keep us competitive for convention space
Former Kennewick Mayor Victor Epperly’s letter to the editor (TCH, May 29) is an excellent example of why our community lacks the amenities enjoyed by our neighbors in Yakima and Spokane. We’re willing to let “perfect” be the enemy of “good enough to start with.”
Mr. Epperly points to the Spokane Opera House and suggests that we could do better than what is proposed for The Link. I agree, but I’m voting yes for The Link. It’s not perfect, but it provides badly needed convention space to keep us competitive with Spokane, Yakima and Wenatchee, plus it improves the production and audience experience for the Windermere Theater.
It is time to stop listening to the siren song of “we deserve better,” and start supporting sensible steps along the way. The facilities we envy didn’t build themselves — citizens stepped up to the need to pay for them. It’s high time for us to do the same.
Kirk Williamson, Kennewick
