Letter: Global warming — fact or fiction?
I am Nischal Allena, a 6th-grader from Enterprise Middle School. I did a science project entitled “Global Warming: Fact or Fiction.” My inspiration for this project was the increasing debates about global warming, a problem that is puzzling even scientists and causing them to take sides.
If this is a big enough problem that even the world’s greatest scientists are arguing about it, then I thought I should perform an experiment so I could inquire about global warming. I tested whether carbon dioxide affected the atmospheric temperature by placing varied quantities of dry ice in four closed jars and recording the temperatures. I also tested the effect of carbon dioxide on the acidity of water. I measured the pH value of fresh and salt water and then added dry ice, left it for some time, and measured it again. I observed that the acidity increased compared to the initial measurements.
I thought my project was important because it discovered that global warming is a fact. I want others who believe in climate change to help fight the enemy that threatens to destroy us and our precious world.
