Letter: Trump offers mumbo jumbo on tax plan
Donald Trump wants to sell you a used car. You ask, “How much is the car?” He replies, “$20,000.” You counter, “I’m thinking more like $17,500.” Trump asserts, “That car is going to cost you $22,000.”
Trump has proposed a tax plan. When questioned about the tax rates, he replied “The wealthy might wind up paying more.” Outrage from the right ensued, causing him to clarify his mumbo jumbo. “I meant that the wealthy might wind up paying more than under my original proposal, not more than they’re paying now,” he explains ... “The rates on the wealthy might go up once negotiations get under way.”
In other words, Trump will try to negotiate tax rates on the rich upward from his original proposal. Please see the first paragraph, above.
How much are you going to pay for that used car you’re buying from Donald Trump?
For extra credit, define “doubletalk.”
