Letter: Writer showed prejudice against clergy in letter
I recently read a letter to the editor (TCH, May 5) in which Mike Wilson claimed that opposition to transgender people using the bathroom that “they felt they represent” — instead of the identity that is on their birth certificate — is “born out of ignorance and prejudice.”
He went on to say that sexual predators are “usually heterosexual male relatives and religious leaders.” He was right about one thing and one thing only — sexual predators are most often males.
But from that point I believe he let his own prejudice against the clergy come through. There have been high-profile cases against the Catholic Church, true. But there have also been high-profile cases of women predators in schools. Does that mean all teachers are thought to be sexual predators? I doubt anybody would think that.
Maybe he should look into his own heart, rather than people who oppose a controversial move by companies like Target. We create safe zones in schools so that people don’t have to feel threatened by somebody writing “Trump” in chalk on a sidewalk. I don’t think possibly putting females in an uncomfortable situation for a transgender person is fair.
