Letter: Courts deny will of the people on religious freedom
Regarding the front-page article “NW firms ask court to uphold same sex ruling” (TCH, May 7), here we go again with several large businesses attempting to influence the justice system.
I wonder what would happen if the people who support businesses’ — such as Arlene’s Flowers — right to adhere to their religious beliefs rose up and signed a petition expressing that support as say, Friends of Religious Freedom.
No, I don’t wonder because even if the entire country signed such a petition, the courts would play their “get-out-of-jail” unconstitutional card and strike down the will of the people as they have already done so many times.
So, I fear it is just a matter of time before one more of America’s fundamental building blocks is pulled out from the foundation that made this nation great and we go the way of other once-great societies, passing from greatness to decadence to oblivion. Maybe I’ll feel better after my morning coffee.
