Letter: Let’s keep our waterfront for everyone

Stop the attempt to turn the waterfront over from the Army Corps of Engineers to local control. What does this mean? The privatization of our beaches and waterfronts. Are we really ready for this? The waterfront is a beautiful landmark. It draws more than 180 species of birds on Bateman Island, according to the local Audubon Society.

I am not going to disguise my age. I am 13 years old. I have no experience in this field. But what I do have is my love of these parks. I have walked the paths there, and I wish to walk with my children upon them in 20 or 30 years. If we turn over the waterfront to local control, it will be developed, and the public will lose most access. Write your local elected representatives.

For the memory of the past, enjoyment of the present, for the preservation of the future, let’s keep our waterfront for everyone!
