Letter: Thankfully, I don’t live in North Carolina

My first experience with inappropriate gender use of restrooms was on a trip to the coast. I stopped at a fast food restaurant to use the men’s restroom. A high school women’s track team had stopped and had formed two lines (one into the men’s room and one into the women’s room). They stood their ground and would not allow the only male customer to use the men’s room.

Using their precedent, when I am at my favorite coffee shop and the men’s room is tied up by someone with the slows, I now use the women’s facility quickly without fanfare. To date I have not had a problem. Of course these facilities are for one person at a time.

Thankfully, I don’t live in North Carolina.
