Letter: Trump will cost the Republican Party dearly
The actions of Republicans during the Obama administration have created the unwanted possibility of Donald Trump as their nominee for president.
The country was probably saved from a severe economic crisis by legislation bailing out the big money institutions during the late Bush administration, but nothing was done to alleviate its economic effect on wage earners and small-business owners.
Several attempts were made by the Obama administration to ease the burden of these people, through legislation that would have been, in part, funded by the elimination of the Bush administration’s temporary tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Instead, most of this legislation was blocked by the Republicans to deny our current president an economic victory. Additionally, in order to pass a budget, the current administration was blackmailed into continuing the temporary tax cuts.
This left struggling wage earners and small business owners with a feeling of abandonment by both parties, resulting in the election of several inexperienced tea party ideologues, and the support of Donald Trump for president.
Citizen Trump fuels the fires of fear, xenophobia, hatred, and racism, and will cost the Republican Party dearly if he is their nominee.
