Letter: Entire community compelled by councilman’s Facebook post

I appreciate the efforts of the Kennewick City Council to create a long-needed commission on diversity.

The Tri-City Herald recognized this effort in its “Thumbs Up” section of the newspaper on April 21. I would like to draw attention to the first sentence: “ A regrettable Facebook post last month by Kennewick Councilman Bob Parks sparked furor in the Tri-Cities Latino community.”

The furor regarding this incident was not merely from the Latino community. The packed council chambers and multiple comments showed this to be a compelling issue for the entire community. Mother Teresa wisely said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” I’m casting my stone to be a ripple that promotes change and equality in our community.
