Letter: Do not want genetically modified salmon on my plate

Salmon with modified genes have finally been approved by the FDA after five whole years. The approval has created a very unhappy America because people don’t approve of the fish.

People are afraid that the natural salmon population will decrease if the modified fish escape into the ocean, but the company that came up with the idea of the genetically modified salmon say they will breed all female salmon so they can’t reproduce if fish escape.

To reinforce this, the FDA has set a requirement that says that the salmon can only be raised at two fish hatcheries in the U.S. But the FDA did not say anything about labeling the products as genetically modified.

I’m with the side that does not want genetically modified organisms on my plate, and come on, why do you need to have fish that grow twice as fast?
