Letter: Sane voters hope Trump is just kidding

Donald Trump’s run for the White House is proving to be enlightening. It shows that the American voters have been less bamboozled than the “established” parties thought they were.

Let’s start with “A house is always a smart investment” — unless Wall Street pulls the rug out and walks away with billions. “International trade deals will be good for everyone” — well, not exactly everyone. “The Iraq war will find WMDs and bring freedom to the Arab world” — nope, didn’t happen. “Cutting taxes on the wealthy will revive the economy by creating jobs” — missed on that one, too. “Obamacare is terrible” — except that it’s been a godsend for millions who don’t live in some states with Republican governors.

So into this environment comes Donald Trump telling the voters they’ve been had and need a better deal. Is it any wonder that the voters are responding?

Of course he lies too — “We’re going to build a wall and Mexico is going to pay for it,” “We’re going to deport all of the (illegal immigrants), “We’re going to keep the Muslims out.” Pity the poor voters — they know these are lies too, but the sane ones hope Trump is just kidding.
