Letter: Obama’s strategy to defeat ISIS is not working
Obama demonstrated his deep concern about the terrorist attacks in Belgium by attending a baseball game. He backed that up by dancing the tango in Argentina. Hillary talked about “standing” with the Europeans — figuratively of course, because nobody was actually sent over to Belgium.
Obama’s strategy to defeat ISIS is obviously not working by most people’s estimation. The effect of terrorism goes far beyond your actual chance of being the victim of a terrorist attack, which is much smaller than most causes of accidental death. It is the effect on your lifestyle, like canceling a European vacation or the anxiety of worrying about a family member serving in the military or working overseas.
ISIS now has hundreds, and probably thousands, of trained terrorists in Europe. They are building bombs from easily obtained household materials, and have websites on how to construct these bombs. Multiply the deaths in Belgium by 100 or 1,000 to estimate the true risk and tell me that you are more likely to drown in a bathtub than be killed by a terrorist.
Oh, we don’t have to worry; the terrorists are in Europe, not the U.S. I feel so much better now!
