Letter: Thanks to anonymous donor in Yoke’s checkout line
Recently we went to Yoke’s in West Richland and purchased about $60 worth of groceries. We paid with a credit card. When we got home, the receipt said we had received $30 cash back on the bill, which was a bit over $29. We both were sure it was a mistake in our favor. We were concerned the checkout clerk, Mary, would get in trouble if her till was short.
We went back the next morning to get it right so Mary would not get in trouble with her boss. As Mary was busy finishing up a checkout, we waited until she was done. She turned and saw us and said, “I know why you are here.” With a big smile, my wife started to explain we felt obligated to correct the error. Mary said the lady in front of us checking out said “Please take $30 and credit it to the lady behind me after I am gone.” What a fantastic thing from someone we did not even know.
God bless this wonderful lady and we thank her from the bottom of our hearts. We will be sure to pass it on.
