Letter: Media displays bias against Bernie Sanders

It is amazing that Bernie Sanders is known by anyone today. For those who doubt the media bias against Bernie Sanders, please read the Tyndall Report’s summary of Campaign 2016 coverage at tyndallreport.com/yearinreview2015

This daily, independent analysis of the top evening news programs (ABC, CBS, and NBC) has been provided by Andrew Tyndall for almost 30 years. For 2015, there has been a total of more than 17 hours (more than 1,000 minutes) of reporting on the campaigns. Donald Trump received nearly one-third (327 minutes), Sanders less than one-fiftieth, or one-sixteenth of Trump (20 minutes). Hillary got a more “respectable” 121 minutes (still more than 6 times what Bernie got.)

The most striking example of uneven coverage goes to ABC’s World News Tonight. Here, Donald Trump received 81 minutes, contrasted to Sanders’ one-third minute (20 seconds).

Looks like the phrase “the best that money can buy” also applies to parts of the media.
