Letter: Bravo to LIGO for discovery of decade, if not century
I would like to thank the Tri-City Herald for its professional work on the glossy and very readable summary of the Progress 2016 in the Tri-Cities.
Everyone would benefit by finding and reading our progress as an area.
However, I would like to point out that the LIGO scientists and technicians — with their new upgraded facilities here in the Tri-Cities, who were able to verify that Einstein’s prediction that huge bodies colliding in deep space would cause very small magnetic ripples to be sent throughout our universe — were not mentioned.
This work will probably lead to a Nobel Prize in Physics, and probably be the discovery of this decade if not the century.
This new verification will create many new scientific projects to be undertaken using these ripples — penetrating much deeper into the universe, perhaps even to the start of the universe. Hopefully some of these projects will be based here.
Bravo LIGO!
