Letter: Pedestrian, bicycle access limited along Columbia River in Kennewick

Pedestrian, bicycle access limited along Columbia River in Kennewick

Beautiful Columbia Park dominates the Kennewick waterfront. The recent extension of the bicycle paths along the shore is fantastic for the Tri-Cities as a whole.

However, safe pedestrian and bicyclist access is limited from the Richland Y to Washington Street. No crosswalks, pedestrian lights, or pedestrian overpasses have been prioritized. Since I was a kid, I have loved riding my bike to swim in the river. I must say though, it is a very creepy ride in the early morning, or anytime Columbia Park is quiet. Without nearby homes and business, there is a vulnerability to folks alone.

What’s up with the pedestrian river access, Kennewick? Thinking about your kids downriver.
