Letter: Country wasn’t founded upon the desire that the wheels of government turn smoothly
Republicans are obstructionist? That’s a misconception. Many voters wish they were obstructionists!
According to polling a majority of people believe this country is headed in the wrong direction. And the Republicans were elected to stop the actions of the Obama administration. They didn’t! Instead they caved to almost everything the Democrats wanted.
Because of Obama’s actions and the betrayal of those who were elected to stop them, many have placed their hopes in Donald Trump to change the direction of this country.
Allow me to straighten out some other misconceptions. This country wasn’t founded upon the desire that the wheels of government turn smoothly. If so, a king would have sufficed. Instead, it was given a president with veto (obstructionist) power. It was given a Congress with voting (obstructionist) power and the power (obstructionist) of the purse. It was given a Supreme Court with obstructionist power to stop unconstitutional actions.
The Supreme Court wasn’t intended to become a political football, but that’s what it has become. That is why justices aren’t chosen by direct election and why Vice President Biden stated in former years that justices shouldn’t be chosen and confirmed in election years.
