Letter: People should have freedom to act and speak according to Christian beliefs

There have been distorted facts directed at Arlene’s Flowers by many, including our state attorney general. Arlene’s Flowers has served and employed gays and has no intention of discriminating against anyone. This is about freedom of speech and exercise of religion.

Being founded as a Christian nation, our Constitution is based on Christian principles. The writers stated that success depended on following the Bible. Our president takes his oath of office with his hand on the Bible. Our Declaration of Independence includes creator. The Stars and Stripes on the American flag are symbolism used from Scripture. Our Pledge of Allegiance was adopted by Congress in 1942 and “under God” was added to it in 1954.

There have been questions of what Scripture actually says. Barronelle Stutzman’s actions aren’t based on her own ideas but on what Scripture says. Jesus teaches from Matthew 19:46 and Mark 10:6-9 that marriage is between a man and a woman.

People should have the freedom to act and speak according to Christian beliefs without the fear of being punished by our government, which is one of the rights our Founding Fathers fought for.
