Letter: People need to know that racing will not be tolerated under any circumstances
Prior to recent incidents, street racers have not been taken too seriously or thought to be dangerous enough to raise serious police awareness. The issue of street racing has been overlooked.
It has had the effect of the broken windows theory. Not enough consistent reinforcement has been made to diminish nor diffuse the issue. Too many people out there think they can get away with racing and don’t view the consequences to be severe. It’s unfortunate that because of a certain series of events this issue is now being brought up to light.
Word has it that there will be more affirmative actions to crack down on the racers — we will see. But until consistent affirmative action is taken we will continue to see the problem.
People need to know that racing will not be tolerated under any circumstances and that the consequences will be more than just a ticket and small jail time. You are not only putting your life at risk but the life of others.
