Letter: What are we teaching the next generation about civility in society?
Watching the news and listening to the presidential debate really saddens me. Why? Because somewhere along the way our society has made it okay to be rude and nasty. In fact, it seems the more rude and nastier you are, the more votes and popularity you get.
I know I’m old school, but come on folks, this should not be acceptable. I still remember my parents teaching me that there’s no excuse for rudeness and if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.
Judge Judy is another example of rudeness and disrespect, yet her show seems to be very popular. She wants all in her courtroom to show her respect, but shouldn’t she in turn do the same?
I just cringe when I think about what we are teaching the newer generation.
