Letter: Turnout at Republican caucus was disappointing

My wife and I saw a story on the local news about the Republican caucus being held at the fairgrounds, we are both pretty conservative, and having never been involved in politics before, we decided to go find out what it was all about.

This is what we learned — the place was full of empty tables representing the precincts around the city. The place could have easily held a couple of hundred people, the tables were there, the chairs were there, all sitting empty. About 30 people ended up showing up, mostly older folks.

Because of the low turnout, my wife and I ended up voting each other as alternate delegates for our precinct because there wasn’t anyone else. We support Donald Trump, the two primary delegates support Ben Carson (four people at our table). If he drops out (and he will) or doesn’t get the nomination our vote goes for Trump. And our vote actually counts!

My point is, if you don’t like who we are voting for, too bad! The tables that represent you sat empty, where were you? People, it’s so easy to change things, all you have to do is show up.
