Letter: No one shot and killed youths for throwing snowballs or dirt clods
Regarding the Pasco police shooting of Antonio Zambrano-Montes for throwing rocks ...
When I was 14 or 15 I worked on a “pea weevil crew” for the Utah Pea Co. in Milton-Freewater. Our crew consisted of six workers and one supervisor. There were other crews. Sometimes the crews became bored and would have dirt clod wars. We would get behind a barricade and throw dirt clods at one another. (Dirt clods frequently are 2 to 6 inches in size, dry and hard — almost like rocks.)
Recently on NBC News, a video showed Jeb Bush throwing a fairly large snowball at a group of reporters. If the snowball had contained a rock, perhaps a reporter would have been injured.
As a youth, we threw “icy snowballs” at each other. However, no one shot and killed any of us for throwing snowballs or dirt clods.
