Letter: Increasing trend in acceptance of science is encouraging

A recent Pew Research Center poll indicates that more than 60 percent of Americans now believe in evolution, one of the major tenets of many of the sciences, including biology, geology, cosmology, and so on.

Furthermore, about 40 percent of Republicans believe in evolution and even 27 percent of evangelicals believe! This is an astonishing accomplishment for science and rationalism, especially considering that when biological evolution was first proposed, it was deemed to be a heresy by just about everyone.

This increasing trend in the acceptance of science is very encouraging. If scientists could now increase the belief in detrimental anthropomorphic climate change, despite Fox News, we may even be able to divert a global catastrophe.
