Letter: Democrats and Republicans need to do the jobs they were elected for

We elect people who we think are best qualified to serve “we the people” for city, county, state, federal and any other public office. What I see in some people now running for office is more like a bunch of kids on the school yard than of statesman quality who could dignify leadership positions in this country.

Some candidates want to change the nature of the country to provide everything free to all. Some think to do everything their own way regardless of your desires or consequences. Some think the bully position will serve everyone best.

Since civics class in 1945 at Amarillo Senior High, I have read many history books, including six on the French and Indian War of 1755. As of today, I see this country ending as the ill-starred Gen. Edward Braddock of the British Coldstream Foot Guards, who, four days after an ambush, was buried in the road back from the fort that he had planned to defeat.

I can only say to both Democrats and Republicans, you were elected to do a job. Just get it done to preserve America.

Le Roy Pierce, Kennewick
